The Art of Numbing a Heart Empty
PostSubject: The Art of Numbing a Heart   The Art of Numbing a Heart EmptyThu May 31, 2012 9:15 am

Miriam had sat down, her feet dangling over the edge of the hole as she opened the bottle. She had taken her first sip before Sinbad had even had time to enter. Once he did she looked back at him with a devilish smile and took another sip of the bottle. The unbearable pain she felt in her chest was soon to be numbed by the alcohol, and the knowledge of this was healing her pain already. Soon, it would all go away...

Sinbad followed Miriam into the room. He was surprised to see how fast she was to start drinking. He hadn't really thought she would be that type when he first met her.
Sinbad said down next to her and started drinking from his own bottle. He drank a lot in a hurry, he wanted to again feel the alcohol's soothing effect.
"How long have you had this idea," he asked curious after a while.

She couldn't help but smile at him, genuinely this time, amused at something only she knew before deciding to tell him.
"About five minutes," she told him truthfully. Really the idea had only come to her as she had laid her eyes on him in the hallway. She was in great need of a distraction, and watching the well-known town's drunk had led her mind to think about the advantages of alcohol.

"Ha, really? Well it was a damn good idea, girl" he said, the alcohol already getting to him.
"Did you see how much wine he had in there?"

She smiled at him, but quickly sighed at his question.
"Only these two I'm afraid," she said, obviously as upset about this as he probably would be, but two bottles were better than none, and more any of them could ask for. She welcomed the buzz she started to feel as she swallowed huge amounts of wine at a time, wanting it all in her system as quickly as possible. She already longed for the numbing feeling of her mind, and smiled when she begun to feel it.

"Aww, what a shame," Sinbad said disappointed. "But we should be thankful for what we have. I never thought of finding something like this in here," he said and laughed. "I sure was lucky to run in to you," he said and smiled at Miriam.

She smiled at him, but the smile disappeared quickly as she stared blankly into the thin air in front of her. The last time she had been in the spire was the reason for her sudden longing to forget it all. It wasn't a pleasant memory, and yet it awoked feelings in her. Happy feelings to her surprise, but also heartbreak, and she could not get rid of said heartache fast enough, she wanted it long gone.
"Cheers," she muttered bitterly and raised her bottle to his, but did not take her eyes off of the empty space between her and the demon side of the rectory. How many times had she not seen Rin sitting on the other side, and how easily was it not to imagine him now?

"Cheers," he laughed and took a huge sip from the bottle.
Eventually the bottle was almost empty, but the effects from it were easy to feel.
Sinbad leaned in on Miriam. "Shouldn't we find something fun to do now that we are all alone here," he said with a smirk.

She had finished her bottle already, and the dizzy, numbing feeling had spread through her body, and yet she sat still. The whole world was moving around her, but she sat quiet as a rock. She was grateful for the relief the alcohol had brought her, her ice felt numb as ice and twice as cold, but she could not make herself smile. Though the pain had subdued it gave her no happiness, she simply felt... empty.
"What did you have in mind?" she asked and turned her head to look at Sinbad. She turned a bit too quickly, and if the world had seemed blurry before it was nothing to what it looked like now, and she had to put a hand to the floor beside her to keep herself sitting upright.

"Like this..."
Sinbad placed a hand on Miriam's cheek before he leaned further in to kiss her.

She was still bewildered, her mind slowed down by the extreme amounts of alcohol, when his lips touched hers, and for a second she could do nothing but stare at him, eyes wide with shock before she pushed him back. In a sober state she never would have, as they were too close to the edge to risk Sinbad falling over, but luckily he didn't.
She had come up there to forget of all things related to love, lust and emotion, and yet he was forcing himself upon her as if she was nothing but a prized possession he could claim for his own. How low was she to stoop before she dared consider the famous town's drunk for a partner, even for just one unlucky night. Anger took the place of shock as she slapped him hard across the face with the back of her hand.
"I'm not your..." she said, but the alcohol made her mind dizzy and she lost her words for a second. "Whore," she finished when she found them again. Standing up it was all she could do not to fall over again and she stumbled towards the wall before she laid a hand against the wall to support herself. She wanted to get down, but was unsure of how to or where she had come up until she spotted the stairs, even then too dizzy to walk to them.

The slap didn't really surprise him. Not that he had seen it coming, but he had gotten so used to it by now. But when he was in that state he never cared, didn't think about anything. He emptied the last of his bottle as he watched her go. When it had gotten to this there was no point in following her, and besides hewasn't sure he could get up.

She stood against the wall for a while to make the path to the stairs somewhat clearer before she started to walk towards it.
Still dizzy and drunk she felt pathetic as she climbed down the stairs, but at least she did not fall. She put all her effort into walking straight, and as a result forgot all about her other senses or thoughts. At least this was what she had wanted right? This numb, cold feeling of not thinking or feeling anything at all. This mercyful cold that kept her from hurting. She couldn't complain, she liked it after all.
