He froze until the demon was out of sight, but didn't relax even then.
"You cannot afford freezing like that. Next time I tell you to run, you do so. Next time we might not be so lucky. Now don't just stand there and wait around for another to come, go!" he urged her as he looked towards the entrance. He would follow her, but he would not go before her. He wanted to make sure that she was safe and beyond the walls of the rectory before he dared think of himself.
She was scared he saw, and so his eyes melted to soothe her, but she needed to understand, it was for her own good he said this.
